Kitchen Helper Stool |
Have you ever thought of your toddler with
you in the kitchen? Don’t want to
purchase a kitchen helper step
stool? Then why not make it by your own? Yes below are the steps to make the
perfect toddler’s step up stool. It’s a tedious but simple task to design and
make your own toddler step up a stool.
Put the step stool together up until
everything but the top piece is attached. If
you are beginning with an already-assembled stool,
unscrew the top piece and set it aside. Now take your pre-cut wood piece with
the default dimensions and sand all the endings of the edges to keep your
toddler’s fingers safe. Now the next step is marking your pilot holes on the 4
½’s wood pieces. Keep in mind that the thinner and longer pieces must be kept
in mind to make your stool slimmer and giving it a sleek look.
Include pilot holes distance from the top
of each board. The pilot holes are always 3/8″ each with the measure of 9mm
from the side. Please note that this will mean that the pilot holes on the
wider side aren’t actually in the middle but rather they are equalized to one side.
Your front and back side pieces will have
slightly different pilot holes so keeping track of where each piece goes will
save your sanity
Now Put together one side of the frame and
take one of the pieces labeled “front”
and one labeled “back” as well as two of
the short 6″ support pieces. Attach everything using eight 2 1/4″ screws i.e.
four for each side. Use an angle clamp, protractor, or anything to measure the
accuracy of the corresponding horizontal angels the vertical beams at 90 degree
angle. Repeat the same procedure for the other side of the frame.
Keep in mind about putting your screws in eg .if you want to make your stool as sleek as
possible using wood filler on top of the screws to effectively hide them make
sure to have them be completely recessed. Pine is not the ultimate wood for
this even with pilot holes so there’s a fine line between getting your screw in
far enough to wood filler on top vs. going too far and splitting the wood. Just
do this part manually and slowly and you’ll get a feel for when to stop.
Now
attach the left and right frame together with the two longer 12.5-inch support beams using eight 1.5 inch screws as fix 4 four screws per side. Always remember
that the back of each side piece has two pilot holes at the top and two at the
middle whereas there is only a single pilot
hole at the front. Again, make sure everything is attached at 90 degree angles
using an angle clamp, protractor or any apparatus.

Attach the round dowel to the front of your
frame using two 1.5 inch screws. Take the top piece of the step stool and place
your frame on top of it. Outline around the legs to mark where your frame will
attach to the stool. Take the frame off again and mark the center of your four quadrangles. Drill a pilot
hole into each of these 4 centers. Put
your frame upside down and attach the top piece to your frame with four 1.5″ screws
and your Kitchen helper for your
toddler is ready. It’s optional to go for spray paint and wood filling but it’s
recommended to get filled and painted to get the sophisticated look to your stool.
